I could have done without the closing scene. I have a vague memory of the book and I think that ending was appropriate to the book, but the movie didn't develop the main character quite enough in that direction for that snippet of happy ending to seem right to me. I don't mind stories in which one's faith in god is a motivating factor or a rational for behaviors. That happens in real life. I do mind (serious) stories that insist that a religions dogma is factual. Just too damn many walking and taking dead people at the end.
The two principles were fabulous and developed well enough to choke me up from time to time. (That is a bit easy, though.)
And the primary supporting actors did a great job.
Best movie I've watched in a long, long time.
I give this one a four out of five. I'm not sure I want to watch it again and again. :) I know the story of movies I want to watch more than once, so that clearly isn't the reason. I suspect, with Les Mis, that if I watch it repeatedly, I will find flaws that make the movie ever harder to watch.
I would much rather remember that I really loved the move.
