[aside: my LJ client doesn't believe me when I capitalize the first letter of the Subjedt Line. sigh]
I am and KDE windowing fan. I switched over from gnome several years ago. I don't remember what it was about gnome that kept getting in the way of the way I worked, but KDE didn't get in the way. So I switched. Then came KDE 4. HORRIBLE. So I stayed with 3.5.
With the very recent release of KDE 4.3, I finally decided to give the 4 series another go. For the most part it is good. I still HATE the gooey, slow, soft look and feel of the "plasma" crap, but a couple of the apps I use constantly have been nicely improved.
I'm typing this in an app running under 3.5. Why? 'Cause 4.3, on my machine, keeps fucking breaking the external monitor. The laptop display is fine, but my big shiny external monitor just stops updating. sigh.
I am hoping for a quick fix on this one.
Another annoying "feature" of 4.3 (borrowed from M$, I think) is the god damn "tool tips" on every widget and button on my desktop. I KNOW WHAT THE BUTTON DOES; I PUT IT THERE! There must be a way to turn them off but I have not been able to find it.
And while I'm talking about my external monitor, I can't figure out how to have the non-X console output show up on external monitor. And booting or troubling shooting an X issue means shifting my physical desktop around so I can see the laptop screen.
