Children have no capacity to see the world from any point of view but their own. When they are under 10, they just don't have the biological hardware necessary to the task. One of the reasons that adolescence is so turbulent is the hardware is coming on line. The need to find how one fits in one's social environment is strong.

The US is in a time when adolescence is lasting into the late 20s. A high percentage of young adults still can't get themselves out of their own way. It makes their lives harder than need be. But, it is their lives.

On the other hand, I am getting tired of it. I'm sure it is a factor of me age. I have their powerful urge to use the "discipline" of my great grandparents time. A trip the woodshed for them all!
