Language is fascinating and English has special appeal.  But not all tricks of language are fun.  For instance, I am nonplussed and disconcerted that "Iraq" and "Vietnam" are words so different yet represent exactly the same thing.

The President of the United States is considering a "surge" in troop strength in Iraq. What a complete ass he is.  The VP and the senior advisers seem to remember nothing of the last half of the 20th century.

When a great deal of military force is applied to a problem like Iraq, the end result will be civil war.  When the USSR broke up, many of the "peaceful" satellites fell into civil war.  In 60 years of oppression, nobody forgot their old hatreds.  Nope, they were just waiting for an opportunity.

How can we have gone through all the conflicts since WWII and still hang on to the Really Stupid Notion that our tactics will work.

George I said "Read my Lips" about taxes.  George II has said that he will oppose any attempt to activate the draft.

I didn't believe the George I, either.

Now a word about the Armed Forces.  The all volunteer military is classist.  At least, with the draft, it was closer to equitable.
