Only twelve hours of trying to get two modems on each of two machines while putting out fires on two other machines with flaky software and flaky modems.
I knew the problem had to be the RS-232 serial communications parameters. But I checked everything there was to check.
Then I suddenly saw a button that said "Detect Crystal Frequency". Everything got a lot better after I pushed that! Now I have two 64 bit machines that are doing nothing but sending and receiving faxes. And I'm hoping like hell that it means a much more stable, functional system.
Today, for instance, we sent about a hundred three-page faxes that were all blank. No idea why. Had to reboot three different computers before that problem went away.
