The side of me interested in the Humanities wonders what affect, if any, this will have on mythology and it's perception (probably none). I also wonder what affect this will have on astrology today. Pluto is no longer a planet while other heavenly objects are likely now going to be considered planets.
As long as we can make up our minds about what is and isn't a planet and stick to that definition then we'll be OK.
I could just imagine political debates in the distant future regarding the downgrading of a planet to an asteroid (or some other classification) and what impact that will have on the people colonizing that world.
