The pentagon has been forced to deal with yet another <a href="http://www.gaymilitary.ucsb.edu>faux pas in the news. The current lead story
for the Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military, at UCSB, has found a document that was signed by the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness in 1996 and re-certified as “current” in 2003.

Edwin Dorn, the former Under Secretary of Defense who signed the original Instruction, agreed the document might be out of date. "It is certainly time to revisit the issue of whether homosexuality should be considered a mental disorder," he said this week.

What a dork. The community most qualified to classify mental disorders made their decision on this issue more than 30 years ago and this asshat thinks it's time to "revisit the issue." The document "might" be out of date. Hell, it was out of date when he signed it.

The report also mentions that some chaplains are practicing "reparative therapy" which has been so thoroughly discredited that using it should be considered a dereliction of duty. (I have know a lot of chaplains, I've not known a single one who was a trained therapist.)

This US military continues to live in the environment in which it was created more than 200 years ago. And many of its chaplains continue to operate as if the year still had only 3 digits.

sigh.
