In a few minutes I'm going to call the dentist's office. I have to work up to it.

I do not make wise decisions when it comes to dentistry. I wait until the pain is nearly unbearable then tolerate the dentist's addition of new and different pain as well as I can. Then for about a week or so, I'm pain free.

Right now, I'm taking a lot of pills everyday to keep the pain manageable. I can't put it off any longer, though. I am having a lot of trouble eating.

A very, very expensive trip to the dentist is in my future. Oy.

i hear ya. except i make even less wise decisions -- even with great pain, i basically wait until it's over. generally, i chew carefully, so as to not aggravate known pain spots. haven't been to a dentist in >20 years. total phobia.

and yes, a very, very expensive visit lies sometime in my future. will it happen before i need dentures? i doubt it.

The best part of this trip is that I'm going to insist that the rest off the teeth come out.

Nearly 20 years ago, the Navy took the top teeth and replaced it with a denture. Once in awhile a lower toothache feels like it is on top (odd, that referred pain!), but mostly I have had no problem with that denture.

I've had $20k of work done on the bottom since then and I've been in or less constant discomfort. Enough is enough.

I know that a lower denture is more problematic that an upper. The tongue gets in the way. :) But both my parents had dentures for decades (I got my really soft teeth and delicate gums from them) and seldom had a problem.

I don't eat the kinds of foods that are difficult with dentures either.

I'm sitll upset with the Navy for not doing it when I was still on active duty. Then it was paid for; now it's out of pocket.

I'm on Stacey dental plan, but I still think it will cost me about $5k. I could be completely wrong about that, but I think the copay for the denture is very high. I might be able to get the Navy oral surgeon to do the surgery for free. I'm going to check into that. Other wise I'll have a high copay for that, too.

Sigh. And I still haven't called.
