As a homework assignment, Kate is writing a letter home from the front. I'm not sure which war. I overheard some of her conversation with her mother about the tone and content of the letter. To her credit, Kate didn't want to write a standard letter bitching about conditions.

I, on the other hand, created a letter in my head and day dreamed about giving it to a history teacher. ;) Damn, there are some ideas about taking my old self and stuffing it into my young self. I would have had a much better time in high school.

My letter covers such topics as honor and duty. What they mean and who gets to decide. It would have been a letter of the philosophy of war such that young men continue to volunteer to fight for their "way of life."

I can imagine the response it would have gotten from a couple of my high school teachers. The explosion would still be ringing in my ears. A couple of other teachers would have love it. I never did learn the art of a teacher what they wanted. I had bought into the idea that there was some value to the education I was getting in high school.

I had mostly figured it out by the time Heather reached high school. No that I'm dealing with Serra High, though, it is crystal clear. Our school system is just another way to abuse children.
