Tookie Williams claimed he was innocent of the four murders right up to his execution.

I've heard two different people say "Well, if he didn't commit those murders, I'm sure there were many others he wasn't caught for."

Tookie Willians wasn't executed for those murders, it seems. He was executed for being a founder of the crypts 'cause that makes him a REALLY BAD MAN.

It does make him a bad man. But it is my most sincerest hope that he wasn't put to death merely for being a bad man. Indeed there is a nearly 100% certainty that he commited other crimes. We don't know about those nor should we put a person to death for crimes one is not even charged with.

Personally I'm not certain there is a good reason to put someone to death ever. There are far more effective punishments which can satisfy a sense of justice than death. The "eye for an eye' provision of the bible seems to be a foundation of American law, but the forgiveness provision is not.

It is a shame.

I believe that's Crips, short for Cripples.

Capone was nailed for tax evasion. Saddam Hussein is being charged (as far as I know) with only one massacre (so far). Sometimes a Bad Man does go up for only a subset of his crimes, though "we all know" that there are more and worse crimes that they've done that are just harder to prove in court.

I think the death penalty is a very bad idea, but if we're going to have it, I don't feel too bad about Tookie Williams in particular getting it.

While I would much rather live in a decent society, I may be able to contribute more by living in this one. It helps to have decent friends like you.
