And now a few words about Rocky. Wheeee.
I spent a good deal of time on Thursday and Friday going over and over and over the Time Warp and other things a Tranie does in our cast. On Friday I had the same stomach sickening anxiety I use to have in Lutheran School just before a test. It's been 45 years since I felt like that. Weird. I spend Friday doing breathing exercises.
I told both people who sat at the root of my nervousness that I was nervous and why. If I sucked at Tranie (which is a busy role as our cast does it) Amy might think I'm a dork. Certainly can't let a crush object think I'm a dork, right. And then, it was Chrys who trained and signed off on Tranie for me. If I sucked at Tranie the cast might think Chrys is a dork for signing off on the dork. It was mostly that I didn't want Chrys to loose points that had me nervous.
I am a slow learner of nearly all things that require coordination between several body parts, but I did adequately.
I am also slow at memorizing. It's going to take me a long time to learn the standard call-backs that the cast uses. And, so far, my timing of them is off. I'll get there, though. It just seems odd to me to be silent for long stretches of movie.
In any event, I passed an internal test. Now I feel like one of the Dancing Idiots.
A fellow who might be 40ish came up to me before the preshow started, while I was dancing up and down the aisles encouraging the audience to get playful, and said, "It's nice to see an older, mature, gentleman making the effort to have a little fun." He was being SOOOO sincere and I really tried not to laugh. The same person went to the after show at Denny's (an all night chain restaurant) and made other interesting comments to cast members. He was clearly trying to be sweet, respectful and encouraging.
Several members from Bawdy Cast (a RHPS troupe from the SF Bay Area) and their friends were at our show last week and last night. Call-backs were muddled as is the case when two casts are at the same show, but the energy was great. Three of them are asleep on my living room floor. As
pdi pointed out, they are cute boys.
The show was the show. I missed some cues, was a little sloppy in my Time Warp, but I did okay.
After the show, the casts cleans the theater. Someone or group brought confetti. We don't permit rice or confetti at our theater. Too hard to clean up especially if squirt guns have been present. It is possible that the word 'confetti' wasn't said during the rule giving. But in any case, we were at the theater an extra long time on our hands and knees and not in a good way.
So, add to that, a two hour Denny's stop and we didn't get home until SIX IN THE MORNING. Poor Scix is at work. He must be exhausted.
As I spend more time with individual cast members and learn about them and why they are involved with RHPS, the more I like them. The reasons for being in cast very greatly. I want a much bigger house so I can invite several of them into the Haven Clan.
End of evening. Six hours of dead to the world sleep. Sore calf muscles. Thinking about Burning Man. Some camp is doing RHPS. I suspect it will be bits and pieces without the movie, but I'll need to find them and do the Time Warp again.
And remember, boys and girls, PLAYING is fun and essential to good health.
