I'm waiting for Amy's computer to lock up. It isn't locking up. Last night I let it bake. I wrapped it up nice and snug in t-shirts so it would get hot. It did. Very. Worked just fine. It's not a heat problem.
I just noticed, though, that I've had my NIC in place. I just switched to hers. I don't think that is the problem though. It seems reasonable that pulling a bad nic out would cause the pcmcia card manager to wake up.
No, I think this has something to do with the basic hardware of the machine.
The one thing I have done is take the bits of broken cover off. This was down to the metal shielding that goes over the mem chips. There are not affixed well without the larger, but broken, plastic piece that we can't find.
I going to play with it all day and see what happens.
One minor reason I hate computers is that I feel like a idiot about half the time when I'm screwing with them. My knowledge and skill in all things electronic was the ONE area of pride I had for 2 decades. Limping along with computers is invalidating the hell out of 1/3 of my life. Okay, then. There is no cheese in this corridor, I think I'll try another. :)
Love. (and for Chrys, I'll add "Lawn Gnomes")
