As a homework assignment, Kate is writing a letter home from the front. I'm not sure which war. I overheard some of her conversation with her mother about the tone and content of the letter. To her credit, Kate didn't want to write a standard letter bitching about conditions.

I, on the other hand, created a letter in my head and day dreamed about giving it to a history teacher. ;) Damn, there are some ideas about taking my old self and stuffing it into my young self. I would have had a much better time in high school.

My letter covers such topics as honor and duty. What they mean and who gets to decide. It would have been a letter of the philosophy of war such that young men continue to volunteer to fight for their "way of life."

I can imagine the response it would have gotten from a couple of my high school teachers. The explosion would still be ringing in my ears. A couple of other teachers would have love it. I never did learn the art of a teacher what they wanted. I had bought into the idea that there was some value to the education I was getting in high school.

I had mostly figured it out by the time Heather reached high school. No that I'm dealing with Serra High, though, it is crystal clear. Our school system is just another way to abuse children.

It was a good night. Stacey and I drank a lot of tequila, watched the first disc of Firefly, then had a couple of hours of glorious sex. Life can't get any better. I say that almost every day and almost every day it is better than the day before.

Firefly is quite good. There are some things that I have to work to get past, though. I can't tell if it is the same actor -- cause I generally don't care about actors -- but the shoot first crew member reminds me completely of the guy in Mission Impossible who was responsible for getting stuff the rogue team needs. It just seems like the same character.

It's also a western. Josh knew that, I guess, 'cause he even has a train robbery! Mostly it's a good set of characters. Josh, though, does have a tendency to create caricatures rather than fully rounded characters. Over time, like in Buffy, the characters tend to soften and flesh out well. Perhaps it's what is required to write for TV.

I'll watch the rest of the set, then the movie. I expect, though, that, like any other themed show, it was going to get really difficult to fine good story lines. Buffy, for instance, had to fight more than vampires and to deal with all kinds of magic stuff in order to keep up the viewer interest. That, too, though, is the nature of TV.

It's a lovely day in paradise. I think I'll go work in the garage for a bit then get ready for the cast meeting.

Love.
