While the household was overrun with Comic Con partiers and house guests, I went to Rocky Horror Picture Show.

127 paid attendance. That was good.

Two women I have been encouraging for a couple of months finally decided this would be their night to attend. Virgins. Nervous. Didn't volunteer for the virgin games.

They were not impressed. I am not sure if they were shocked, but I think so. When asked what they thought of the show, one said, "It was interesting."

Sigh.

Joey (a cast member) played Riff-Raff. Energetic and athletic performance. He did a great job. At one point (beginning of Time Warp) he threw himself through the air (a really strong dancers leap, at that) and off the stage (on purpose). He was back on stage and hit his next spot with perfect timing. I sat in awe several times.

A large portion of the dinner scene was taken over by cast tossing candy into the audience. That was strange. The audience love it.

When Magenta and Columbia were staging themselves for the Touch Me number, they wouldn't let the woman playing the criminologist off the stage. The next time I looked, many of the women in the cast were in the Ring Around the Lesbian pile. It caught the audience by complete surprise. We all approved. :)

Even though many of the call backs are slams against the movie itself and many of the cast and audience members are pretty verbal about thinking the movie sucks, I can't help but love it. Production values are pretty low, sure, but it was supposed to be a cheesy send up of the early B SF movies. It does that perfectly.

Mostly though, I really like the movie's blunt instrument poking at general sex negativity, gender stereotypes, taboos and prudishness. Long live RHPS.
