I am still amazed when I watch groups of people interact, that some people think they have very little impact on the world.
They find evidence for that opinion every where they look, but they don't see the counter evidence. Mostly because they aren't looking for counter evidence.
I know a few people (not well), who are really down on themselves or down on humanity in general or down on their friends. They hide, shrink back from activities because they just don't want to be a bother or a boor or a party-pooper. They think they are being more or less invisible.
That just isn't the way it works. The old lady who never comes out of her house is the talk of the neighborhood. Adults wonder about her, kids make up scary stories about her. She is having a major impact on her street. The shy guy who never speaks to anyone at work (nor will he look them in the eye) is the topic of conversation every time someone new comes into the office.
We do not exist in a vacuum. And it doesn't matter if we want the responsibility for how we impact the world, we have that responsibility. It is our job, as a member of a social species, to not rob people of their precious time by being a mystery they are biologically pushed to solve.
Get into life and play full out. Have pain and joy in the moment as they come by and then have what comes next.
There is the say "lead, follow or get out of the way." Unfortunately, there is no "out of the way." We are not isolated units that can switch ourselves into and out of the social machine. We are part of the fabric of life.
Now, I'm getting ready for Show Tunes. Oh yes! (Even if it does feel odd that I rarely drink anything at Show Tunes.)

Nice Guy Syndrom coupled with persistant expressions of no self worth.
I get a bit impatient with them 'cause I sued to be one of them when I was a teen.
