...quite a bit of fun when in the company of freaks, weirdos and oddballs. Or with my Rocky Friends and Family.
The park was not very crowded, either. Just enough to feel full, but not so much that the lines were unbearably long.
Some major attractions are down for one or another reason. The Haunted Mansion is being refitted for Nightmare Before Christmas. The outside looks really great. Pirates we did twice. the second time the nine of us (our seven, but two of our Rocky people who hooked in for this) filled the first three rows of a boat. We sang our version of the Pirate song. We followed it up with our second Jungle Cruise (hoping for a guide with a sense of humor this time). We sang the pirate song on the way in. We got the right guide and he made fun of us on our way out. It was great.
I had not been on the Star Wars simulator before. That was fun. Geek that I am, though, I spent my time picturing the roll, pitch and yaw of the simulator that produced the various sensations. It was a fun puzzle. 3D movies and movies that are supposed to give you the feeling of movement (I don't know which this was) fail completely for me. But the bumps and jumps were fun.
$20 lunch in Tomorrow Land. Pasta with Alfredo. Big portions and tasty. Big enough portions that I needed, nor wanted, any more food for the rest the day and still not interested in food this morning. Two big meals (breakfast and lunch) in one day is a lot of food for me.
aeire likes Disneyland a lot. Good thing, she bought a Premium Annual Pass (and my ticket! Thanks, Sweetie). It was great fun hanging out with her and Clyde That is the name he is not, but I can't think of the name he is. He is also not Carlton, Connor or Corky.) and a bit of Crazed Imaginations (
lizetta, LBJ, Tom,
blueelephant). I was a bit disappointed that
taintedimage and
veggiebelle were not able to join us.
When I get a little money in the bank, I will buy an annual pass, too. I like Disneyland, and I want to see the decked out Haunted Mansion. I was never going into California Adventure, but seems they have some serious roller coasters over there. Guess, I'll go through those gates eventually.
Then there was the blow off. I really used to like the Electrical Parade. Well, okay, I liked it a lot 30 years ago. It would not impress me much today. Disneyland has decided to keep pace with the bleeding edge of showmanship. At 9pm, on the Mississippi, they have a show called Fantasmic. It includes the Columbia and the Mark Twain ships, Tom Sawyer Island for a stage. Fireworks, water shows and a whole lot more. It is a story told through a Mickey Mouse dream and covers a lot of Disney movies. It is a technical wonder. It is simply amazing. A great value added by the park. Lots of imagination and creativity at work from the Disney design team.
I am a tech geek. It is the last big reason I love Disneyland. And it is a trip down nostalgia lane for me. (And usually for those with me, but I try to keep my mouth shut about it most of the time. :) I do like talking about my first trip to Disneyland with my Rocky Friends. It has to sound like ancient history to them.
