I administer a forum. It has need to send out an email from time to time to various users. And it also sends out an email to someone if they are "watching" a particular thread. Because more than one person might be watching a particular topic, it sends a "bulk" email with hidden recipients.

Well, no, in fact, it doesn't. Instead, I get a ton of rejected mail in my root mailbox. And it is a feature that seems very hard to turn off.

I chased it around the phpBB world for weeks. I gave up. I finally posted to the phpBB support forum. Reply #1 "That is normal."

How helpful. Another exchange, though, had me start looking at my MTA rather than the forum software. And lo', the MTA was configured to not allow Bcc mailings with no To: header.

Sigh.

I think I shall continue to hate computers.
