Oscars

I have seen two of the movies nominated for best picture.

One of the movies was okay. I liked the people mostly even when they were doing REALLY STUPID THINGS. But the movie was so slow that I couldn't stay engaged in the story. I was bored for most of it. And I expect this movie to win.

The other I thought was just a crappy movie. If I had seen it in a theater, I would have felt like I wasted $9.

I haven't even heard of the other 3.

I've noticed a slow shift in my point of view in the last 15 years. Most of the human drama that movies tend to deal with bores the living shit out of me. It's the same drama as 30 years ago and it did interest me then. But there is very little left that seems like a fresh look at human sexuality, relationship tragedy, the ups and downs of daily human life.

The last movie I saw that dealt with it in a way that was interesting to me was American Beauty. Before that was Moulin Rouge.

I'll just stick to SF, pure escapism and musicals. I'm not in tune with the normal Hollywood output any more.
