Some CI thoughts
I left the show early last Friday (just after dinner scene) because I was too tired to walk and think at the same time. But I did my duty to the show by signing up for three things on the board and handling a couple of things I hadn't signed up for. Being the backup for prop movements is a good thing. :) And I won't be at the show next week because of a planned trip. I rarely miss shows. A few more in the last six months than is my usual habit, but very few over all. I also get that my schedule is a lot more flexible than some folks.
All that said, I do not understand how we can be so sort handed on show night. Even if we allow that one only has to be at two shows a month to be in good standing, that means that we should have half the cast at most shows at a minimum. There are some obvious exceptions to that. But generally we should have close to 20 cast members at the show. 11 performing (Trixie, Eddie, Rules and Rev are short parts, too). That means there ought to be 9 or so working bodies to cover lights/props, and security.
I haven't been playing close attention, but it doesn't seem like we have 20 at a show. Maybe I'll start counting the crowd at the cast meeting. I might be imagining that we have a shortage. I know that I hear "we are short of cast" often. We do seem to be short of players.
Also, we are rebuilding the "who can clear" list. It's yet another crack at getting a system for training and approving our cast members to play parts. A couple of years ago, I was on the list to clear for Dr. Scott. But I took myself off the list. Our cast director, after a cast leadership meeting, wrote some questions for people to use to submit themselves to be on the new list. I wasn't going to submit my name.
I was asked to. I thought about it for a long time. It was not an easy decision. I decided I would submit my name. I sent off my requests.
And finally, I'm thinking about adding another part. A couple of people have suggested the Criminologist.. But he doesn't call to me at all. I'm thinking of Brad. But I'm not going to put any effort into learning his peculiarities until I am comfortable with kickline. Soon I'l start working on that. I can't even see what the characters are doing in that dance so it will be difficult.
Time is fleeting....
