I've seen many articles talking about how to protect yourself if your computer even winks at the Internet. The articles fall into two main categories.
One category -- the one I think has it right -- starts out telling folks to dump Microsoft products including the operating system, Word and Outlook and Outlook Express. Different articles give slightly different reasons. Even if the only reason is "biggest target for crakers," it is a good enough reason, I think. Switch to Mac or Linux.
The other category of articles are written by folks who have a financial stake in Microsoft. They either work for them or they make an after-market living working on Microsoft boxes.
Here's a good article of the first type.
