It's a disaster, so every news agency and reporting outlet is spending time covering it. And most of the NPR coverage is quite good. Lots of behind the scenes stories about political spin and the like. They are also describing some of the conditions faced by the survivors.
But, if I hear one more time about the children trapped (killed) by their collapsing school house I'll go on another multi-month boycott of KPBS.
I find no compelling reason to think that young people are any more important than anybody else. There just seems to be a common story that children and old people are helpless therefore "we" should be more concerned for and about them.

I hated that conversation when I was a child and I'm beginning to hate it again as I get older.
