Governments trample on people right and left. There seems to be no other possible way for them to act. There are many laws designed solely to give law enforcement a way to check for a violation of another law.

One such set of laws are curfew laws. I dislike curfew laws in general. If a young person is doing something illegal, then deal with that behavior directly. Being young is not immoral or dangerous to life and property..

The great city of San Diego has its own brand of stupidity, though. Any juvenile subject to California's Compulsory Education laws must either be home, with a parent, or in school between 8:30am and 1:30pm on a school day (defined by the San Diego City School Board) even if the school the young person attends is closed that day!

Kate, for instance, attends an alternative school. That means she is in school one day a week and studies on her own the rest of the time. She is not permitted to leave the house Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 1:30pm without a parent even on the days she is not required to attend her school.

It is another example of VERY bad law in the city of San Diego. Very bad law.
