Really. It's the sick kind of stalking love, though. I just can't keep my hands or my mind off them. And it doesn't matter how shabbily they treat me. Nope, I love them. I sure wish I could get Visual Basic to talk to dBase III dbf files. Then I would live them even more.
Today, I was watching one of our young stars in admin doing data entry in a clipper window. FAST. She would get one screen completed and move to the next before I could tell what she had typed. That means the system rewrite will not use a web interface. It would slow her down by half. Nope. As much as I would liked to use a web interface, I think I'll be writing clients to talk to my database.
It's not a bad model. I can still use tcp/ip connections to the server rather than using Microsofts' networking. With luck, I'll be able to port the damn software to run on linux, windows and mac. I'm not looking forward to constructing the guis. I might farm that stuff out.
