So, it seems Raid1 is not always the answer. Something is very broken on the new server. I can no longer talk to the mysql server. Something went south in the /dev/md0 and something about mysql is damaged. It only affects Crazed Imaginations web site., but for the time being, forums and biographies are both down.

i have to get everything off mysql and this is just one more reminder. Sigh.

it is possible that all the data is still available, so i can fetch the data off before repairing mysql. We will see how well that works.

I hate computers.

Well. I was unable to deal with the server from home. It turns out, I probably could have, but I didn't know it until I was in Encinitas for an hour.

The server has two large hard drives and two little ones. The little ones are not part of the server in any reasonable way. They are raid1 drives that have old versions of SuSE on them.

One of them went bad. I think it has been going bad for a long time. The machine has been unstable. It finally went completely bad in a way that caused the raid software to have problems. And those problems were affecting the rest of the server in really weird ways. Like, mail worked, and apache2 worked, and postgresql worked. But mysql was completely hosed. And nothing I did was having an impact.

I told the computer to stop caring about those little drives and all is better. And faster.

Love.
