I have been stuck with Microsoft boxes at work for so long, I'd forgotten a few basic things about Linux.
I was prepared to get up early-ish tomorrow and drive back to Encinitas to do server maintenance. As I was packing up at work today I remembered that I don't have to go to Encinitas to do the server maintenance. I can do it from the comfort of my own office.
All I'm doing is moving everything from one machine to another, changing the firewall machines to deal with the change, and changing the nameserver records. All if it can be done from the chair I'm in now.
Things to do (not the 'right' order):
1. Dump all the databases out of postgresql and mysql and load them up on the new machine.
2. Configure Apache2 on the new machine to play nice with all the domains we host. This means rsyncing all the web sites, testing the new server configuration, shutting down the server on both machines, rsync one more time. Start the server on the new machine. Restart the namesever. It also means step 1 for the crazed databases needs to happen for this, too.
3. Xfer the mailman lists. (I'm not sure how to do this one.)
4. Xfer the mta stuff. This is really done. It just needs dns changes. BUT it means passwords are going to change. Good thing we don't have very many users.
5. Cleaning up all the DNS issues (might add spf at this same time.
6. Reconfiguring the both BSD firewall machines.
Sleeping the sleep of the just. Maybe just sleeping the sleep of the dog tired.
