SPAM is the casual term used to mean "Unsolicited Commercial Email". I make a distinction, though; I think SPAM is a subset of UCE.
I just received an email from equifaxmtkg.com. A quick whois check provided me with enough information to believe that the email was from a real company (NCR), so I clicked their "unsubscribe" link. Now there will be no more email from equifax.
SPAM gives me no such option even when it says it does. SPAM lies outright in an attempt to fool you into looking at it. Non-SPAM UCE doesn't lie (more than any other advertising).
My anti-SPAM measures are working very, very well. I think I'm going to revive my news account (it is all spam) to see what gets through.
