I've been trying to reproduce juice drinks like those made by Jamba Juice or Robek's. I have failed miserably for years. I make decent drinks, but they just aren't "Orange Dream Machine" or anything even close.

This morning I decided to try again. I took out the Vita-Mix "cookbook" and looked up the smoothies. Uff-dah. I found the magic. The last time I was at Jamba Juice, I was paying attention to what their Vita_Mix machines were doing. Start slow then speed up to max. I didn't think much about it at the time. This morning, though, there it was. Start from the slowest speed and quickly speed up to max.

It's about the air. When I start the Vita-Mix on the highest speed, it throws all the ingredients up and mixes in a lot of air making the drink froth instead of cream.

Off to the store! Yogurt, bananas and oranges.

I made a smoothie with coffee yogurt, a banana, a teaspoon of honey, an orange and a cup of ice. I probably won't use coffee yogurt in the future, but the drink was damn close to right. Something else needed to be frozen to make it thick enough. I'm going to try freezing a couple of the yogurts.

This is a good thing!!!

I've been trying to change my diet -- centered around fruit and vegetable drinks and smoothies -- for years. It is why I bought the Vita-Mix. Now there is a real chance to make it happen.

Life is good.

Love.
