This is a highly religious community, to all appearances. There are 13 churches -- soon to be 14 -- and their parting lots are full on their worship day (Saturday or Sunday, depending on the particular brand of Christianity).

It is religious in the fashion of Bible-belt prudery and faux-shock at any event that might seem immoral. Of course, drug and alcohol use is very high Tierrasanta. And that is fine unless it's the kids. Yes, we are steeped in "let's save the chilllllldren!"

There is a specific kind of rudeness here and it can escalate to serious and unlawful levels. When someone here is offended, they feel justified in demanding you change your behavior to stop being "offensive."

If you don't, the community finds ways to retaliate against you, your family and your friends.

I realize that this isn't peculiar to this community. I've run into it every place I've ever lived. Each community has its standards and non-conformity is risky.

It's been a tough week for me in this regard. Stacey tells me stories about the last 15 years of living here, though, that really point out the lengths that families go to here to display their disapproval.

Yep. People are no damn good. :)

The trip now includes Kate and two of her friends. Teenage girls.

Not only didn't we leave on time. We are STILL HERE. Sigh.

I'm channeling my father. :)
