It has taken a long time for the spambots to find the ci forums. I expected to get hit a long time ago, but I've been lucky. They aren't doing any damage 'cause they register, but don't confirm, so they can't post.

The confirmation email, or course, bounces and ends up in my mail box. I have to manually delete the bogus accounts one at a time.

I haven't upgraded phpBB in a long time, either. I'm running 2.0.11 and the newest release is 2.0.21 and it includes, among other things, one of those graphical authentication systems in the nature of "type the letters/numbers you see into this box." That way bots can't even get an account. Go me.

I also have a couple three web forms that users can use to send messages to me. Two of those send a message to a small group. Spam bots have found all of them. Almost all that spam falls right into a bit bucket 'cause they are trying to break my script by trying to add new headers (Bcc to the world headers). But some of the more ignorant spammers are using the form to send spam directly to me or my small group. Sigh.

When the new mail system goes into effect, it must have a spam killer in place. Even the ubber slow spamassassin is better than looking at all this damn spam.

Right now, I'd be thrilled if I could simply and easily kill anything in an Asian character set. That would knock the wind out of about 70% of my spam.

Spam complaining done for the day.
