I woke this morning looking right at a bit of art Jan made for me for the one year anniversary of our relationship. It's a poem based on an identity label I was using at the time and may reclaim. Her gift to me was handwritten, but I'll reproduce it here as best I can with the fonts available.

Kindness cloaked in leather.
Inward looking, outward touching,
Never afraid to tie and untie the
Knots in a heart and soul.
You've reached into places and spaces
Beyond the moon's sweet flame, while
Igniting forgotten dreams and long lost
Passion. Slip through
Oceanic swells of desire, of knowing, of longing.
Listen to the source; respond to the
Yearning. Return to the heart's home.
Pleasure and pain, joy and sorrow...
All part of the Goddess' great
Game. Play with her now, surrendering
Again and again in your spirit journey.
Nature's cry is a scared one.

The scripting is coming along fine. But if I engaged in sex like I write code, my partner and I would spend a hell of a lot of time almost getting there. :)

There's physical courage like that displayed by persons putting themselves in harms way. Skydiving for instance. Heroism in war is of this sort. It's the common one. It's the one that people remark on and for which medals are awarded.

I'm more interested in the other kind. I'll call it emotional courage for lack of a better name. It is the quality displayed by people who are struggling and winning against the fear of being emotionally hurt.

It is this courage that I am more prone to celebrate than the other. And it is this courage that is most often hidden by people.

So, this is a public appreciation of a few people who I know are showing great courage in their lives right now. I'm pretty sure there are others, but I'm only listing those I am certain about.

Whereas the following people have displayed courage beyond average; and,
Whereas the following people have both slain and walked with their dragons; and,
Whereas the following people are not stopped by their fears

I award the following people the Order of Strength. All cheers for these mightily courageous people.
